In an incredible act of kindness, NFL quarterback Sam Darnold has donated all $4.7 million of his signing bonus and endorsement income to homeless relief organizations and charities. Fans, teammates, and the larger sports world have all praised the deed of generosity.

Darnold, who is renowned for his leadership both on and off the field, said, “I feel really fortunate that football has given me so much,” demonstrating his dedication to giving back. I want to use my position to support those in need, particularly those who are homeless or living in poverty.
Much of the money will go toward housing projects, food programs, and shelters in locations like New York, Charlotte, and San Francisco where Darnold has performed. Additionally, he has collaborated with a number of nonprofits that provide mental health care and job training to homeless people.
Darnold’s charity has been commended by teammates and coaches. One player, who wishes to remain anonymous, said, “This is just who Sam is—always thinking of others.” In addition to being an excellent teammate, he is an even greater person.
Darnold’s gift is a motivational reminder of the positive influence athletes can have off the field by leveraging their resources and influence to promote significant change.
