Gary Sinise has talked about the terrible death of his son, who passed away last year at the age of 33 from a rare kind of cancer.
Following the cancer diagnoses of his son Mac and wife Moira in the same year, the Hollywood legend put his acting career on hold.
According to sources, two months after his mother’s stage-three breast cancer diagnosis in 2019, Mac was informed that he had a rare type of bone cancer. While Mac tragically lost his battle in January 2024, Moira survived and was later deemed cancer-free.
Following his son’s death, Sinise posted the following statement on the Gary Sinise Foundation website: “He passed away on January 5, 2024, at 3:25 p.m., and was buried on January 23.”
We are devastated and have been doing the best we can, just like any other family dealing with such a loss. Being his father makes me feel incredibly grateful, blessed, and proud.
In a recent People Magazine interview, Sinise disclosed that his son has chordoma, a form of bone cancer. According to reports, it hardly affects 300 persons in the US annually.

About Mac’s MRI scan, Sinise remarked, “It looked like a monster grabbing my son’s spine.”
The 33-year-old’s tumor was removed by doctors, but sadly, he was one of the few chordoma patients whose cancer returned.
Sinise, actor of Forrest Gump, decided to put his career on hold and leave the spotlight in order to try to help his kid survive after he spent six of the first eight months of 2020 in the hospital.
“I stopped acting at that point,” Sinise said to People. “I began doing everything in my power to find Mac a miracle.”

“I didn’t want Mac to be worrying or thinking about the next treatment,” he continued. So I was always thinking about cancer. You’re attempting to alleviate the suffering. There were a few occasions when I felt inadequate or unsure of what to do. After saying a brief prayer, you get back up and resume fighting.
As time went on, Mac’s health declined. “Hope keeps you fighting,” Sinise remarked. Tumors were seen on his body. You were aware that the medications were ineffective. However, I didn’t anticipate that we would lose him.
Surrounded by family, Mac tragically lost his fight with illness on January 5, 2024.
According to Sinise, “he kept wanting to stay.” He was reluctant to leave. However, I am aware that Mac was finally at peace. He handled it bravely and gracefully.
Regarding a potential comeback to the entertainment industry, Sinise is happy to take his time and put his family’s needs first.
“It’s harder to leave home now, but something might come along and it’ll be right,” he clarified. All I want is to be with my family. I’ve become more closer to my girls since loosing Mac. You consider the things that are truly significant.
