His hair had always been shoulder length, a little unkempt and gray-streaked. It had been a part of his identity for years, giving him a sense of timelessness and rebellion.
His surroundings grew accustomed to it. He never gave it much thought, but some murmured that it aged him, while some that it suited him.
He didn’t recognize the man staring back at him when he peered in the mirror one morning. He appeared worn out and older than he actually was. He asked for a fresh look at a neighborhood barbershop that same day without giving it any thought.
A change started as the hair dropped and the scissors moved. With each lock that struck the floor, the burden of the past seemed to be lifted, inch by inch.

Sharper features, brighter eyes, and even a faint jawline that had been missed were all revealed when the barber cut his hair into a neater, shorter style.
Not only did he appear younger. He appeared lighter and more self-assured, like a man eager for a new beginning.
He still had the years, but they now fit him well.
And everybody saw.
