She had long, straight hair that hung down to her thighs for as long as anyone could remember. It was smooth, streamlined, and consistently immaculately kept.
She was frequently praised for it; some even claimed that it was her most distinguishing characteristic. What used to feel like her signature, however, started to feel heavy with time.
She had been considering a shift for some time. Something new. Something audacious. She eventually made the decision to go for it one day.
She requested a short bob—nothing in between—when she entered the salon. Though astonished, the stylist was certain. The change started as the long, flowing strands were cut with the scissors.
She appeared entirely different after it was finished. Her eyes appeared brighter, her jawline was more prominent, and her overall look changed from traditional to contemporary. Family and friends were in disbelief. When they initially saw her following the cut, some even did a double take.
It was a statement rather than merely a haircut.
Nothing was lost by her. She actually got something: a fresh appearance, a sense of independence, and a confidence boost she hadn’t experienced in years.
