He had thick, slightly wavy, dark-blond hair that fell past his ears for as long as anyone could remember. It made him stick out in a throng since it gave him a gentle, carefree appearance.
His hair had become an integral part of who he was, whether it was cascading across his forehead or tucked behind his ears. Some admired it, some wished they had it, and some friends made fun of him for it.
But one day he made the decision that something needed to change. Perhaps he wanted to see how different he could look, or perhaps it was the heat or a new chapter.
For whatever reason, he blurted the unexpected words while sitting in the barber’s chair: “Cut it short.” Very brief.

Despite his hesitation and double-checking, the stylist nodded confidently and quietly.
His familiar hair dropped to the ground, clip by snip. His face showed more clearly with each incision, his jawline more defined, his eyes more fierce. The change was dramatic.
Even he was taken aback when it ended. He appeared more mature, self-assured, and totally rejuvenated.
The reactions were immediate: pals were astonished, jaws dropped.
A haircut can occasionally make a statement in addition to changing one’s style. It was also the beginning of something new for him.
