Her stunning features—pale skin, brilliant eyes, and long, flowing white-blond hair—were well-known for years. Her appearance naturally stood out as a young child with albinism, and her waist-length hair became a defining characteristic of who she was.
But with time, it began to weigh her down both emotionally and physically. It all became to be too much: the upkeep, the tangles, the continual care. She desired a change. Something audacious.
She decided to do so. When she entered a salon, she requested that the majority of it be removed. Not a cut. Not layers. a short hairstyle.
The stylist stopped, then grinned, realizing that this was a statement rather than merely a change in style.

She gazed silently as the long strands dropped to the ground. The girl in the mirror changed, inch by inch. Her features sharpened and her face became more apparent.
When it was finished, she grinned as she glanced at herself. Despite the change in appearance, she felt more like herself than ever.
Friends were taken aback. She wasn’t immediately recognized by everyone. Everyone, however, thought she looked strong, fresh, and self-assured.
It was more than a simple haircut. It was a self-discovery moment. It was hers, too.
