I demand that everyone and everything around me stop for a second whenever my favorite music begins to play. Especially if it’s a song I haven’t heard in a long time, I turn up the radio, roll down the window, and yell out the words at full power. When emotional lyrics are combined with a fantastic music, something absolutely beautiful happens. Music has the ability to move us, evoke strong feelings, and produce enduring memories.
Additionally, age is irrelevant. Irrespective of our age, music has the power to profoundly impact us. No matter where we are or how anchored we believe we may be, it has the power to move us. This young child is the ideal illustration; she is enthralled with the music, just as I am likely to be when no one else is around!

On a hot July afternoon, it all started. The sun was low in the sky when I was driving home, giving everything a golden tint. The breeze pulled at my hair as the windows were down. At that moment, the automobile was filled with the distinctive opening notes of my favorite song. I flung my head back and hit the volume button all the way up without even thinking, prepared to give the lyrics my all.

Then I noticed a young girl sitting in the car next to me at the red light; she couldn’t have been more than four or five. Her large, wide eyes were fixed on me, and she was holding a plush animal tightly. Her eyes brightened as the first lyric began, and she began to sway from side to side right away. There was more than just a slight wiggle; it seemed as though the music had seized her and embraced her.
She was singing before I realized it. She was obviously singing along, matching the melody as closely as she could, even though her voice wasn’t very loud. She didn’t mind that her mother was watching, presumably assuming she was just acting like a normal child, or that she was riding in the backseat of a car. Like me, the young girl was engrossed in the music.
I couldn’t resist grinning. This lovely music seemed to bind us together, as though we were each in our own tiny world. The city’s cacophony vanished at that moment, and the song and the happiness it gave were the only things that mattered.
We both grudgingly stopped singing when the light eventually turned green. However, I kept thinking about that little girl as I drove away. She had no qualms about losing herself in the music and losing herself in it. She was really enjoying the moment and wasn’t concerned about who was looking or whether she was singing flawlessly.
And I immediately understood that I could appreciate music just as much without being by myself. The intensity of the song remained the same whether I was yelling out the lyrics in the car by myself or sharing the same excitement with a stranger at a red light. It served as a reminder that when it comes to anything that touches your spirit, age is irrelevant.
Everyone, regardless of age, can communicate via music, and when it speaks to you, it brings out the best in you. We all need times to relax, lose ourselves in the music, and experience the magic, just like that young girl did.
