Princess Diana’s younger brother, Charles Spencer, has talked of the anguish of losing her.
He called her dying “an amputation” during an appearance on a UK talk show during Mental Health Awareness Week, describing the loss as leaving a long-lasting void in his life.
He talked on how close they were as siblings, particularly because they shared a similar sense of humor. He would frequently catch himself wanting to call Diana for years after her death, only to realize she was no longer there.
Their childhood closeness made it much more difficult to comprehend her disappearance.
Charles, who is now 60, considered how his familial circle has altered as he has aged. He stated it feels like a part of his life is lost forever because he has elder sisters and no one close in age to share childhood memories with.
He also recalled how difficult it was to watch Diana’s public life unfold. As a teenager, he wanted to protect her from the constant pressure and attention.
Just before her tragic passing in 1997, he even reached out to a journalist who had written harsh words about her, standing up for his sister.
Charles continues to talk about Diana with a great deal of affection and respect after giving a stirring tribute during her funeral. He is still dedicated to preserving her legacy and paying tribute to her, particularly for her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
