When he sang the first notes, the tears of the judges came quietly at first, then all at once, and there was no stopping them

A lovely, painful voice, full of something that caught them by the breast, came out of the platform, and the judges sat motionless with their backs to the speaker. “The Story of My Life” was lived rather than merely sung, with every word brimming with pain and candor like pages from a ripped notebook. The chamber let out a long sigh.

But as the chairs swung around, the sincerity of the voice really got to them. The rest of the story was conveyed by his face, which was one of sorrow, adversity, and carrying more than anyone should. At that point, the judges’ strength failed them. There was no stopping the tears, which began to fall softly and then all at once.

An amazing performance that can bring you to tears can be seen in the video below. Vernon Barnard had glaucoma from birth. At first, he had quite good vision, but after 16 operations, he lost it before he was five years old.

He never gave up his love of singing in spite of his illnesses and hardships. Everyone who heard him during his audition for The Voice: South Africa was impressed. In particular, Judge Bobby van Jaarsveld was deeply impressed. Vernon was moved to tears by One Direction’s rendition of “Story of My Life.” It broke me down, too, to be honest. Following the tryout, Bobby knelt down and asked Vernon to join his team. As his coach, Vernon embraced him.
