During the performance by Mary and Tyce’s husband and wife combo, Duo Transcend, viewers of the July 17th show of AGT witnessed a dangerous accident. They were performing aerial silks and acrobatics as part of a circus routine. Everyone in the audience was stunned when Mary abruptly lost her husband’s hold and collapsed to the ground during the routine. The incident frightened the audience and the judges. Heidi Klum briefly covered her head in horror as Simon Cowell moved away.
But Mary immediately jumped up, beaming, and said that the padding on the stage had kept her safe. The audience attempted to stop her as she begged to do the dangerous deed once more. “The incident only made the performance less than perfect,” said Judge Simon Cowell.
Mel B stated that considering Tyce’s blindness in one eye, the act was quite admirable. In order to assist their family—particularly their two-year-old son—in wrapping up their protracted journey, Mary and Tyce wanted to take part in the show.
