Off the coast of Egypt, in the Red Sea, there was a fatal catastrophe.
During a trip to examine the coral reefs, a tourist submarine carrying about 44 people of different nationalities—including children—sank.
Numerous people have died as a result of the disaster, and rescue efforts are ongoing.
began to sink
According to the local newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm, the tourist submarine Sindbad was getting ready for an excursion in the Red Sea region of Egypt near Hurghada. Tourists can see the coral reefs and colorful marine life up close from the submarine, but on Thursday, things went horribly wrong.
Six people were killed and nine injured, including four in serious condition, after the tourist submarine sank in front of the marina of one of Hurghada’s most well-known hotels, according to sources. 29 more persons were saved.
As the submarine began to sink, a rescue effort was initiated, with the Egyptian Ambulance Authority and the Red Sea Health Directorate allegedly on high alert. Security and emergency personnel, as well as 21 ambulances, were sent to the area.
For a number of years, Sindbad has been running tours for tourists in the Hurghada region.
The company claims to have two of the only “14 real recreational submarines” in the world on its website. The ship can go 82 feet below the surface of the ocean, providing breathtaking views of the aquatic life and coral reefs.
“[Go] 40 minutes below sea level to enjoy the fish and corals with a diving show to take pictures for a lifelong memory, and then you will be taken back to the marine by the same boat.” Addes and states of Sindbad Submarines:
“Take pleasure in the safety and comfort of our air-conditioned submarine, which is equipped with two pilot seats, forty-four passenger seats, and large round viewing windows for an unmatched underwater experience.”
There were six foreigners slain.
The governor’s administration in Hurghada acknowledged the deaths of six foreigners, but it did not identify their nationalities, according to the New York Post.
In a Facebook post, the Russian embassy in Egypt claimed that all of the passengers were Russian nationals. The embassy, however, only reported four deaths, which is less than the official number given by local authorities.
The Russian Telegram channel Baza claims that one of the dead is a youngster.
Located in the Red Sea governorate of Egypt, Hurghada is a well-liked vacation spot for many Europeans, with more than four million visitors in 2022 alone. With 1.158 million visitors, Germans made up the largest group of visitors to the area’s resorts and hotels. Travelers from Poland, the Czech Republic, and Russia were among the other noteworthy nations.
However, after 16 accidents in the previous five years, the UK government issued a safety warning in February about liveaboard diving vacations in the Red Sea, despite their popularity. In the past 21 months, three diving boats have gone missing, resulting in several fatalities, including several UK citizens, according to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch.
Consequently, the UK government recommended that tourists only reserve these vacations through “reputable vendors who can provide assurance about the safety standards applicable to the dive boat.” Additionally, they advised passengers to ask the crew for a comprehensive safety briefing when they first board.
