With his heart thumping like a drum in a rainstorm, the young guy stepped onto the stage. As he gripped the microphone, a lifeline amid a sea of uncertainty, sweat stuck to his palms. Then—whoa. With a deep breath, he stepped off the edge of indecision and into the spotlight as the opening chords of Livin’ On A Prayer echoed through the speakers.
It was like someone had thrown a switch, sending a tremor through the room as soon as his voice tore through the air. He lived the song, not just sang it. He was raw, fierce, and brimming with fire. The judges’ eyes widened as though they had just witnessed a lightning bolt, and their mouths fell to the ground.
Then there was mayhem. The intensity of the occasion caused some judges to fall out of their seats, while cheers burst like fireworks and laughter erupted uncontrollably.
We are now more connected than ever thanks to the internet. The entertainment industry has taken advantage of the ease with which people can now interact and even watch people from around the world by organizing some of the biggest and most thrilling talent shows to date. One such talent show is The Voice, which draws millions of viewers worldwide to see who will be the next big star.
One of the most notable contestants on Germany’s 2018 season of The Voice—The Voice of Germany—was Matthias Nebel. Nebel entered the blind audition, where judges are only allowed to choose a performer based on how well they sound, and he won them over almost instantly with his rendition of the Bon Jovi hit song “Bed Of Roses.” His amazing voice, which you can hear for yourself in the video below, were featured prominently on the cover.
Nebel’s audition immediately strikes a chord with two judges in particular. Mark Forster (a German-Polish singer) and Michael Patrick Kelly were spotted immediately beaming as they recognized this iconic rock hit and began singing along with Nebel. With his family watching behind the scenes, it was a very emotional occasion for both Nebel and his parents, who will undoubtedly be pleased with his performance.
