When James Corden took Paul McCartney on a nostalgic drive through Liverpool, fans knew it would be special—but no one expected tears, laughter, and an unforgettable surprise concert! From revisiting Penny Lane to sharing the heartbreaking story behind Let It Be, McCartney’s heartfelt revelations left Corden wiping away tears. The journey ended with an electrifying pub performance, proving once again why McCartney’s music is timeless.

In a previous interview, host James Corden stated that his favorite Carpool Karaoke episode featured Paul McCartney as the guest. In a recent interview with the Paley Center for Media, Corden discussed the challenges he and his crew faced in preventing Macca from withdrawing. “Thrilling,” he said.

They weren’t exactly strangers, and it was easier to explain because McCartney reportedly already knew about the section.

“He said, ‘I’m in, I’ll do it, I can’t wait,'” Corden recounted.Corden went on to talk about the “big gig at the end” and the places they’re heading to. However, McCartney changed his mind. “The message came through to us about a month later that he’d canceled, he didn’t want to do it; he’d got cold feet for some reason,” Corden clarified. Then, two weeks later, he returned.

That wasn’t the end of it, either, as Corden got an email a few days prior to their scheduled flight to Liverpool stating that McCartney had once again changed his mind. Additionally, it stated, “He simply feels that this is not the right kind of thing for him at this time.” He still hopes to accomplish it in the future.

In the end, Paul McCartney performed the piece despite numerous obstacles, and it is still regarded as one of the show’s most recognizable episodes. The remainder of Corden’s interview can be found below.
