The 59-year-old southern UK native identifies as the “Old Grey Guitarist.” He said on AGT that he teaches guitar to children between the ages of five and eighteen, saying, “The kids keep me young.”

His career did get off to an odd start.
Was John Wines Famous Before AGT?
The Old Grey Guitarist’s well-known tunes and tutorials may have caught your attention on Tik Tok or Instagram. After a year or two on social media, Wines claimed on his website that he became viral in September of last year.
He has an impressive 1.3 million TikTok followers and 178,000 Instagram followers.

“Offers of work and other endorsements are now flooding in with his newfound fame,” Wines said on his website after signing on as an official artist with the guitar maker D’Addario.
Old Grey Guitarist’s website offers T-shirts, jumpers (sweaters), and even tote bags for fans who wish to represent him.
The John Wines Audition That Got the Audience Chanting for an Encore
In keeping with the adage “never judge a book by its cover,” With his axe in hand, Wines tore through Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” so much so that the crowd chanted, “We want more,” and demanded an encore.
Simon Cowell, the judge, stated that he “was not expecting that.”
Cowell remarked, “You look so normal, nice, and sweet.” And when you perform, you become someone else. I adore that.
Sofia Vergara, the judge, remarked on how much fun she had seeing him perform.
Vergara remarked, “You didn’t think you could be a teacher.” “Have you ever considered becoming a rock star?”
Wines acknowledged that he was conflicted while performing, but the reception brought him to tears.
“I’ve never done anything so nerve-racking,” Wines remarked. But the most thrilling, too. My legs are moving.
Each of the four judges gave him a “Yes” in the conclusion, therefore he advances in the tournament.
