You won’t believe Rachel Crow’s enormous voice when she performs Beyoncé’s “If I Were A Boy” on The X Factor USA at the age of 13. When the schoolgirl took up the microphone, she sang like the queen of soul herself, despite her gorgeous frizzy hair. The strength and maturity of the voice that emerged from such a young girl is quite astounding.
Rachel appeared totally at ease on stage and effortlessly hit every note in the song. You couldn’t tell she was “scared” before her performance since she exuded the poise of a natural performer. With 40 million views on the internet, her performance became the most watched video in the show’s history in the United States.
“It means everything, and I know that I’m meant to be here,” Rachel said before her performance, displaying quiet confidence despite her nervousness. Before her performance, the Boulder, Colorado youngster kept the judges guessing by assuring Simon Cowell that “it’s a surprise” when he inquired about the song she would be performing. Her song selection certainly did not let us down.
Fans at home had a lot to say about Rachel’s performance, including, “This song still gives me goosebumps to this day.” The judges did not respond during the bootcamp phase. “It’s amazing how young she is, and you know she probably hasn’t gone through such heartbreak, but her voice is so convincing it’s practically impossible not to feel anything,” and “She sang with so much maturity, so moving.” Rachel used Duffy’s “Mercy” for her audition earlier in the competition.
Rachel was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the inaugural season of The X Factor. After she faced Marcus Canty in a sing-off, the round ended in a stalemate, and she was dismissed.
Since her experience on The X Factor, Rachel has had a very prosperous career in the entertainment sector. She received a recording deal with Columbia Records a year after she appeared on the show, and in 2012, her EP debuted in the top 20 on the US Heat chart.
In the same year, the young prodigy signed a contract with Nickelodeon to host her own television program. Despite the failure of her show, she made appearances on a number of other Nickelodeon programs, including Big Time Rush and Fred: The Show.
